I've met people ...

WHO THOUGHT THAT IN ORDER TO BECOME A BETTER BIRDER OR ENHANCE THEIR CONNECTION WITH NATURE THEY EITHER:

  • Had to run around the world with a detailed checklist wearing a multi-pocketed vest.
  • Had to be obsessed with birds since they were really young.

THANK GOODNESS ~ THAT'S JUST NOT THE CASE!

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE GOOD,
YOU JUST HAVE TO LOVE

It doesn't matter if you've spent 20 years watching birds or 20 minutes...

THIS FESTIVAL IS GOING TO TRANSFORM THE WAY YOU KNOW BIRDS

WHAT YOU'LL EXPERIENCE AT THE FESTIVAL

AT MOST FESTIVALS, YOU PRETTY MUCH ONLY HEAR FROM EXPERT BIRDERS.
At this virtual festival ~

YOU'LL GET TO LEARN FROM SOME OF THE WORLDS LEADING
ARTISTS, SURVIVALISTS, PHOTOGRAPHERS, SCIENTISTS AND CONSERVATIONISTS.

Don't worry. For those die-hard birders out there, we've got bonafide bird nerds here for you too.

We’re talking about 12 speakers who are experts in their fields,
ready to help you expand what you thought was possible, learn practical skills and fall even more deeply in love with the world of birds.

DURING THE VIRTUAL FESTIVAL WE'LL UNCOVER STORIES LIKE ~

  • What Ravens Say: And how you can learn to understand them.
  • The Gyrfalcon: North America's largest falcon from the vantage point of a National Geographic photographer in the remote Arctic.
  • How Birds Helped Woniya Survive 73 Days Alone in Winter: Star of the History Channel's Alone Show shares her unorthodox approach to surviving in extreme conditions.
  • What Feather Is This: Learn tips to identify bird feathers from the man who created the Feather Atlas.
  • One Simple Trick To Draw Birds Like A Pro: Learn the technique that has helped over 20,000 people draw a bird easily. It even worked for me.
  • The Groundbreaking Discovery Nathan Pieplow Made For Birders With Hearing Loss: This is a game changer, if you're willing to learn a new language that is.
  • Why Female Birds Don't Sing Like They Use To: Yes! Female birds sing. More than most people think they do. How has this changed over time?
  • You Don't Believe In Field Guides!: Why Richard Crossley, author of the Crossley ID Guides, doesn't believe in field guides. Hu?
  • The Crazy Things Craig Childs Has Endured To Get Close To Animals: Author of Animal Dialogues & The Secret Knowledge of Water put himself into uncomfortable, even dangerous situations in order to tell the most authentic stories possible.
  • Why Bird Nests Are The Ultimate Sign: How the study of bird nests reveals layers of ecological insights and might even alter your view of the life on earth.
  • Saving the Helmeted Hornbill: Hear how a forensic ornithologist is helping interrupt the trade of “red ivory”, a.k.a. rare hornbill horn.

WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?

KRISTI DRANGINIS

GREAT QUESTION! Hi. My name is KRISTI and I am the founder of Bird Mentor, where I teach advanced skills to thousands of beginning birders around the world through engaging courses and events. I have been actively involved in the birding and nature skills community for 25 years, working with casual birders, educators, and industry leaders.

After years of mentoring a diverse range of students, an unexpected pattern emerged. I found that many of my students felt excluded from the birding world because they didn’t believe they fit the traditional birder mold and therefore didn’t identify themselves as birders. The truth is, these people were as devoted to learning about birds as any traditional birder I knew.

To give these students, and the hundreds of thousands of people silently believing they too don’t belong, an opportunity to see what the varied faces of birding look like, and learn from some of the greats…I created this virtual festival.

Come get your bird love on with us.
~ Kristi Dranginis
